History of IGMNiR

Three decades representing Poland's non-ferrous metals and recycling industry — from 55 founders to one of the strongest sector voices in the country.

1995

Foundation

4 October — the Founding General Assembly; 55 companies establish the Economic Chamber of Non-Ferrous Metals. Jerzy Kotowski (KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.) becomes the first Chair of the Council.

2010

Joining forces with recycling

14 January — merger with the Polish Metal Recycling Association (PSRM); "and Recycling" is added to the Chamber's name. The same year the Chamber joins the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR).

2011

A voice in Europe

The Chamber joins key European federations — EUROMETREC, EUROMETAUX (European Metals) and EuRIC — strengthening the Polish industry's standing in Brussels.

2016

New Council leadership

Bogusław Ochab (ZGH Bolesław S.A.) becomes Chair of the Council — a role he holds to this day.

2025

30 years of the Chamber

30th anniversary. The Chamber brings together some 77 companies and institutions — from smelters and processors through recyclers and trade to academia. In September, Gdańsk hosts Central-Eastern Europe's largest metal recyclers' meeting (IGMNiR–VDM–BDSV–MRF): 306+ participants, 178+ companies, 17+ countries.

2026–2035

The next decade

Priorities for the years ahead: a real increase in the competitiveness of Poland's non-ferrous metals industry, lower electricity costs, and technological transformation (education, R&D).
