SMR Polska sp. z o.o., headquartered in Skawina (ul. Piłsudskiego 23), is a producer of aluminium granules and shredded aluminium made from aluminium waste; its principal activity according to the KRS is the recovery of sorted materials. The company is registered in the Polish National Court Register under KRS 0000219649. Founded in 2004, it initially operated as a trading business and since 2011 has been developing as a producer of aluminium deoxidisers, mainly in granular form. Its headquarters and production plant are located on the site of a former aluminium smelter in Skawina. Since 2023 the company has belonged to the international FLAME S.A. group, which is its majority shareholder.
Aluminium granules are offered in fractions from 0.5 to 30 mm and shredded aluminium from 10 to 40 mm; chemical composition and grain size can be tailored to customers’ needs. The products are used mainly in the metallurgical and chemical industries, among other things as a steel deoxidiser and a process additive for metal alloys. Feedstock comprises various kinds of thin-walled aluminium scrap, including cans, foils, caps, blinds, roller shutters and Alucobond-type composite panels. Under the FENG programme the company installed a line with an XRT+IR sorter and a spark spectrometer, making it possible to obtain granules with 98% aluminium purity as well as high-purity zinc. The management system complies with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 50001, verified annually by Bureau Veritas.
The company describes its process as mechanical and energy-efficient compared with traditional thermal aluminium recycling, with no emissions of harmful compounds to air; in 2024 it recycled more than 15,000 t of non-ferrous metal waste. It has developed a recycling technology for composite panels that recovers almost 100% of the aluminium and plastics, and in a project co-financed under the FENG programme it is developing photovoltaic panel recycling with 90% glass recovery as well as recovery of aluminium, silicon and other metals. As an IGMNiR member, SMR Polska represents aluminium scrap recycling and its processing into products for the steel and chemical industries.
