## In brief

Technical requirements for waste storage sites, including for metal scrap: separation, marking with codes, bays, ground surface, safeguards and hazardous waste zone. Issued under Art. 25(7) and (8) of the Act on waste.

## Key obligations

- storage sites separated and kept apart from products; marking with waste codes in figures of at least 20 mm (§ 5(1) and (3)–(4))
- scrap in bays with vertical walls or in separated sectors, on a hardened surface, protected against access by unauthorised persons (§ 6(1)(1)(b), (3)–(4))
- scrap not contaminated with petroleum products exempted from the requirement of a hardened, impermeable surface and separators (§ 6(3)(9) and (4))
- selective storage, with rotation, dust control and unobstructed fire access roads (§ 7(1), (3), (4) and (6))
- hazardous waste above 1 Mg in a marked ‘HAZARDOUS WASTE’ zone (§ 8(1) and (3))

Regional Inspectorate of Environmental Protection (WIOŚ) (inspection); permitting authority (district head (starosta), Marshal of the Voivodeship)

## Penalties

storage in breach of Art. 25(1)–(6) of the Act on waste – fine of PLN 1,000–1,000,000 (Art. 194(1)(2b) and (3) of the Act on waste)
